Program Overview

The minor in Spanish is for students who want to combine the acquisition of linguistic competence with the study of the literatures and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.

Declaring the Minor

Students declare their minor in Spanish through Axess. Students should meet with the Director of Undergraduate Studies to discuss appropriate courses and options within the minor programs and to plan the course of study. The minor is administered through the undergraduate student services office in Pigott Hall, Room 128

Learning Outcomes:

The minor introduces students to rigorous scholarship on Spanish-speaking communities and cultures worldwide while providing linguistic and literary competency commensurate with a secondary study area.

Program Learning Outcomes

The department expects undergraduate minors in the program to be able to demonstrate the following learning outcomes to a degree appropriate for a minor course of study:

  1. oral proficiency in Spanish beyond the interpersonal level with presentational language abilities, proportional to a minor area of study

  2. close reading skills of texts in Spanish, proportional to a minor area of study

  3. writing proficiency in Spanish beyond the interpersonal level with presentational language abilities, proportional to a minor area of study
