PORT-MIN - Portuguese (Minor)

Overview

Program Overview

The minor in Portuguese is for students who want to combine acquisition of linguistic competence with the study of the literatures and cultures of the Lusophone world.

Declaring the Minor

Students declare the minor in Spanish or the minor in Portuguese through Axess. Students should meet with the Chair of Undergraduate Studies to discuss appropriate courses and options within the minor programs, and to plan the course of study. The minors are administered through the undergraduate student services office in Pigott Hall, Room 128.

Learning Outcomes

Program Learning Outcomes

The department expects undergraduate minors in the program to be able to demonstrate the following learning outcomes to a degree appropriate for a minor course of study:

  1. oral proficiency in Portuguese beyond the interpersonal level with presentational language abilities, proportional to a minor area of study

  1. close reading skills of texts in Portuguese, proportional to a minor area of study

  1. writing proficiency in Portuguese beyond the interpersonal level with presentational language abilities, proportional to a minor area of study
