Program Overview

The undergraduate minor in Middle Eastern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (MELLAC) has been designed to give students majoring in a variety of departments an opportunity to gain a substantial introduction to Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Turkish, Middle Eastern, and African languages, and to the cultures and civilizations of the Middle East and Africa. The minor in Middle Eastern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (MELLAC) has five tracks.

Up to 5 units of transfer credit may be counted towards the minor, with the approval of the faculty director.

Learning Outcomes

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will achieve an appropriate level of language proficiency in Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Turkish, Middle Eastern, or African languages.

  2. Students will achieve an appropriate level of cultural proficiency and orientation in the cultures of the language they select.
