Minor in History

Students must declare the minor in History no later than Autumn Quarter of the senior year via Axess. Minor declarations are approved by the Department of History and confirmation is sent via email to the student.

Program Policies

External Credit Policies

The Department of History allows for transfer credits in a student's course of study.  A maximum of three transfer courses may be used toward the minor. All students should reach out to History’s student services officer to discuss your transferable coursework.

All coursework, unless otherwise specified, requires a syllabus, transcript, and petition form to be submitted to the History Department for review. Please see the History Department website for the relevant petition form.

Learning Outcomes

Program Learning Outcomes

The department expects undergraduate minors in the program to be able to demonstrate the following learning outcomes. These learning outcomes are used in evaluating students and the department's undergraduate program. Students are expected to demonstrate:

  • an understanding of what it means to think historically: locating subjects in time and place and being sensitive to the contingencies of context and change over time

  • critical and interpretive thinking skills using course's primary source materials

  • the ability to identify different types of sources of historical knowledge

  • analytical writing skills and close reading skills

  • effective oral communication skills
