Program Overview

Declaring the Minor

Students declare the major in German Studies through Axess. Students should meet with the Chair of Undergraduate Studies and undergraduate student support officer to discuss appropriate courses and options within the minor, and to plan the course of study.

A maximum of 5 units of AP or transfer credit may be applied with the approval of the Chair of Undergraduate Studies.

MINOR Program Learning Outcomes

The department expects undergraduate minors in the program to be able to demonstrate the following learning outcomes. These learning outcomes are used in evaluating students and the department’s undergraduate program. Students are expected to demonstrate: 

1. oral proficiency in German at or beyond the interpersonal level, with a minimum of nascent interpretive and presentational abilities; 

2. writing proficiency in German at or beyond the interpersonal level, with a minimum of nascent interpretive and presentational abilities; 

3. close reading skills of authentic texts in German; 

4. general knowledge of the cultural, political, and social histories of the peoples of the German-speaking lands.
