Course Description

This course will take a deep dive into the ever-evolving field of intimacy direction. Together, we will investigate all major elements of intimacy work, with an emphasis on the structural and artistic components needed to create nuanced, authentic, and safe intimacy choreography. Topics will include tools for facilitating consent-based rehearsal rooms, for creating intimacy choreography for a range of theatrical styles, and for understanding the hierarchies and power structures that exist within theater in the United States, and in particular, how to work within and against these structures. This course is intended for students interested in pursuing intimacy direction, as well as directors, choreographers, stage managers, and performers who may wish to develop skills and competencies in this area.
