Script Analysis

Course Description
This class is an introduction to script analysis for directors, designers, and actors. Unlike literary analysis, which focuses on aesthetic, historical, and critical reading of plays, script analysis is geared towards production. In that sense, it is pragmatic. It helps directors, designers, and actors identify key features of the play. No less important, it helps them divide the play into manageable units, and understand the way in which these segments come together to form a unified whole. This is a hands-on class, in which students learn how to engage in a step-by-step analysis of the playscript.
