Course Description
This course helps students develop greater confidence in their academic writing practice and prepares them for their first-year writing class. Through discussion, reading, and both informal and formal writing activities, students focus on how audience, purpose, and cultural context can shape the decisions they make in their writing; develop research and information literacy skills; and practice strategies for effective academic writing style. We'll engage with a variety of different types of writing, from expository to analytical essays and source-based writing. Class meets three times per week for 75 minutes synchronously online, and students also participate in at least one individual writing consultation with their instructor.
