Course Description
Spring break field trip to various locations in Eastern California (may include Owens Valley, eastern Sierras, White Mountains, Death Valley). Exact locations will vary by term. Topics may cover natural history, geology, and ecology. Students will learn tools for self-directed learning (including problem solving, critical thinking, observation skills, giving and receiving feedback) and will have the opportunity to practice those skills through a variety of activities including field sketching, team problem solving, reading maps, and navigating in teams. Expect moderately strenuous hiking, living in a communal dorm-style environment, and group chores. Engaged participation expected, no prior knowledge or experience required, open to all majors. No course fee. Food, lodging, and necessary equipment is provided at no cost to student participants.
