Family Law

This course will explore how the law regulates the family. It will cover (1) adult relationships, with a focus on formation, recognition, and dissolution of marital and nonmarital relationships; and (2) parent-child relationships, with a focus on reproduction, parentage, custody, and child support. Class materials consist primarily of judicial opinions and statutes but also include media accounts, legal scholarship, and interdisciplinary materials. Elements used in grading: Exam, with minor adjustments for class participation.
